Our November-December homeschool was filled with anticipation.
It's all we did.
We reveled in the coming of Christ - born to die - to save us from our sins.
It was magical.
Thanks to several friends, I found 2 resources that fit perfectly into our homeschool structure, and remained founded on scripture and rich with thought-provoking insight. (I share pictures and links below.)
The first was my favorite, a book given to me last year by a dear friend. Unwrapping the Names of Jesus. The second is a fellow cancer-Momma whom you can follow on Instagram. She graciously shared an advent celebration book that she wrote - complete with activities, writing work and crafts! Slow & Sacred Advent.
All of this took the pressure off me having to be creative at a time of year I'm stretched in that department. My husband even enjoyed the readings, the candle-lightings, and the daily scripture reading.
The last little part of our celebration was to read a chapter of Luke everyday in December. I think this was a suggestion from FB, but it was perfect. We went in-depth to learn the character and ministry and teaching of the baby we were getting ready to celebrate - and then just before we celebrated his birth - we read about his death and resurrection. Eternal perspective, always.
When Christmas Eve arrived, we went to a candlelight church service together, and came home to read about Jesus again. We also read our traditional, "The Night Before Christmas" vintage pop-up book that my grandparents gave me as a child. When we finished both, my son said, "We should be focused on what really matters at Christmas, Mommy..." I held my breath...." Jesus came to save us."
